Living Our Lives to the Fullest

Alternative Pathways is having its first annual golf scramble.
We are looking for sponsors and for people to join us May 18th as players (individually or in teams of 4).  If you have any questions you can direct them to AlternativePathwaysGolf@gmail.com.  You can also check back here often for updates.  We hope to see you there!

Happy New Year!
As January finishes up, we're just getting back to normal after of the excitement and extra work of the holidays.
We want to take a moment to say: Thank You!
If you volunteered, donated or did anything at all to help us make Christmas special for our big (and growing) Alternative Pathways family--Thank you, from the bottom of our heats.  We were able to see so many smiling faces thanks to the help from family, friends new and old and even some virtual strangers to our group--including many of our dedicated and caring staff members.

We hope your (not so new anymore) year is off to a great start.

Dear friends of Alternative Pathways:
Alternative Pathways clients and staff work in partnership to create an environment that is supported, committed and loving for our community and the community-at-large.  We take pride in giving back to our community that we love by volunteering for organizations such as Meals on Wheels, Feeding America, John Ball Zoo, Gilda's Club, and many others.

As we watch the holiday season approaching quickly, we as staff look for ways to give back to the clients who give us so much every day.  Here at Alternative Pathways, the holidays can be hard for many of our clients.  We ask you to help us bring joy to their holiday season in return for the joy that they bring to the community daily.

Donations of food for the holiday dinner, gifts, your time, or monetary donations are greatly appreciated by all of us at Alternative Pathways.  If you have any questions about the program or donating you can explore this website, or give us a call at (616)247-3589.  All donations can be sent to the office at 912 Ardmore ST SE, Grand Rapids MI, 49507.  Checks should be made out to Alternative Pathways Client Funds.  We are also PayPal verified so donations can be made right here on our website under the "get involved!" tab.

Anything you are willing to donate is appreciated, Thank you for your time and attention.

Sincerely,

Alternative Pathways staff
Summer Fund Raiser Update
A special thanks to everyone who helped build and paint birdhouses, bought a birdhouse or helped in any way big or small with our summer project.  While most of our clients were camping members of our board, staff and a handful of volunteers refinished the hardwood floors in FIVE of our client-owned homes in only five days!  They look wonderful and our consumers are so excited about the fresh new look in their homes.

About Us
Alternative Pathways is a non-profit service provider located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The members of Alternative Pathways have various types of disabilities, and live independently. Homes are owned by individuals with disabilities and rented by four or five other people.  The homes are all located in roughly the same area. The office is attached to the back of the director's home and is accessible to clients throughout the day.

How are we from an Adult Foster Care (AFC) home?
AFC homes are licensed homes for people with disabilities.  The homes are licensed and monitored by the state.  The residents do not own their home.  Some AFC homes state that the residents must be out of the home for a certain number of hours during the day, forcing residents to leave and find somewhere to go during this time.

At Alternative Pathways people with disabilities own their homes and rent out rooms to other individuals.  Unlike licensed AFC's, Alternative Pathways enjoys the freedom to explore many options for the consumers during the day.  Some have jobs, some attend a day program, while others work on job readiness skills at home and in the community.

Tell me more...

There are currently ten homes and close to forty consumers in the program. Resident's ages vary from early 20's to mid 60's.

Alternative Pathways has been in existence for fifteen years and is unique in its ability to give our consumers independence as well as structure.

Right now Alternative Pathways has twenty-two staff members but that number seems to always be changing.  No matter the level of
independence, staff are always available to someone in need
.

Alternative Pathways is a 501c3 organization.  Your donation is tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Thank you!
